The Department of Biotechnology presents before you a platform for Interactive Discussion on Scientific and Technical issues related to Science for Women.  As an outcome of the National Conference organized on 8th March, 2002 “Women Scientists and Technologists – Role in National Development”, recommendations were received on important issues related to S&T for Women, Women in S&T and the Institutional Framework to be adopted to promote this activity at National level.  The response received from large number of scientists has been very encouraging and it was felt that in order to move forward in this important area, it is essential that we have a platform created for interactions amongst the scientists to generate valuable ideas.

In an effort in this direction, the DBT is now launching this Interactive Discussion Forum on its Web site, this will be open to all scientists who would like to contribute and share their views.  To join the Discussion Forum you will require to register online and thereafter become a Member of the Forum.  Initially we propose to begin the discussion with issues related to Science for Women.  The recommendations of the National Workshop have been hosted on the web site and it would be fruitful to begin discussions on some of the salient recommendations.  Subsequently, we can include more topics based on the suggestions received from the scientists.

We have prepared a separate mailing list of the scientists involved in this Forum and an effort will be made to summarize the discussions on a weekly basis and circulate it to all Members for their suggestions/comments.  We are hopeful that the Discussion Forum will take good shape as we move along with complete participation and involvement of all scientists actively engaged in Science & Technology for Women.
