National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) is an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India being established in the campus of University of Hyderabad.
Mission: Development of sustainable and globally competitive livestock industry through innovative technology.
Vision: To demonstrate excellence in promoting and commercialising leads in biotechnology and to produce globally competitive livestock products, pharmaceuticals and biologicals for animal healthcare.
NIAB will focus on translational science and capacity building in the area of Animal Biotechnology. The vision is to enhance knowledge on livestock production and health and translate the knowledge for developing a globally competitive livestock industry through innovative science and technology development. A key feature of NIAB is that it will function as an incubator for startup companies and will also act as a national repository of biotech products and processes and promote bio-entrepreneurship in the country.
NIAB aims to promote one medicine one health concept, catering to the needs of human and animal healthcare sector in India with major emphasis on conducting high quality research and attracting world-class talent. Among other activities, the institute aims at human resource development in key areas of animal biotechnology and conduct research leading to the development of vaccines, diagnostics and improved therapeutic molecules for farm animals.
