In the short and active span of 10 years since its inception DISC-BCIL has brought out may publications and databases in the form of directories and status reports on various issues related to biotechnology. Regular updates on biotechnology news are brought out in the form of newsletters. These include VATIS UPDATE Biotechnology, published jointly with APCTT and Biotech Bulletin.

The DISC-BCIL has been instrumental in organizing a number of national and international conferences, seminars and workshops for the benefit of industry. To facilitate bringing in technologies from outside the country, interface meetings with delegations from developed countries are also being undertaken. DISC also started a Biotechnology Club to being closer interaction among the institutions. The centre also provides full text patent service to the clients, with some value addition.

  1. Coordination of “National Biodiversity Stragegy and Action Plan”

  2. Market survey on Biosensors

  3. Status study on rDNA therapeutics

  4. Preparation of feasibility report for setting up of Biotech Parks in various states such as Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Greater Noida etc.

Education

  • Publication of Biotech Bulletin and Value Added Information journals such as Vatis Update: Biotechnology to spread the knowledge of Biotechnology throughout the world for the benefit of scientific community.

  • Organization of seminars and symposium in the field of Biotechnology to create awareness on the potential of biotechnology for India.

  • Entrepreneurs’ Meet on biotechnology commercialization

These meets are organized after identifying technologies appropriate for the state/union territory and for which techno economic feasibility has been established, prima facie.  DISC in association with parent organization brings together entrepreneurs, technology sources, financial institutions, banks and industrial promotional agencies, for close interaction to identify appropriate projects for commercialisation.

  • Workshops on plant tissue culture

Two workshops on the role of Micropropagation technology parks for commercialization of plant tissue culture technologies were organized.

  •  International Workshop on biosafety

The DISC coordinated organization of two international workshops on biosafety for the Asia-Pacific region on raising awareness on issues related to assessment and management of risk associated with the use of GMOs and their transboundary movements.

  • Roving Workshops on biosafety

Under sponsorship from DBT, the DISC organized  a series of 5 roving workshops in Delhi, Calcutta, Hyderabad, Pune  and Bangalore during September-October 1998 with the objective of creating awareness on biosafety issues emanating from use of genetically modified organisms.
