Subject : Call for Research Proposals on Clinical Proteomics

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) invites research and development proposals from scientist, groups/ individuals for providing Programme Support on “Clinical Proteomics” or for specific industrial projects. The purpose of programme support is to create collaborative network of basic researchers and clinicians on clinical proteomics as this is an emerging discipline in biomedical research  that involves the application of proteomic technologies from benchside into the bedside. Programme Support would be provided for better understanding of disease processes, development of new biomarkers for diagnosis and early detection of diseases, identification of new targets for therapeutics and accelerating drug development through more effective strategies to evaluate therapeutic effect and toxicity.  Some of the areas of interest are :

  • Identify protein families linked to disease pathogenesis or their outcome.

  • creation of proteomic maps of proteins for various biological membranes and tumor tissues for diagnostic purposes

  • target identification and validation i.e.  identifying proteins whose expression levels or activities change in disease states.

  • identification of  biomarkers

  • protein–protein interactions that influence either the disease state or the proposed therapy.

The groups, within or across the institutes should collectively have strength in basic research, technology and medicine may submit the proposal. Initially the Programme Support would be considered for a period of three years with flexible support extending up to five years or longer in the programmes demonstrating significant progress.  Application format may be obtained from the following DBT websites : http://www.dbtindia.nic.in OR  http://www.dbtindia.org. Twenty five copies of the Programme Support proposal(s) as per above format should reach the Adviser (Medical), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology,  Block-2, C.G.O. Complex, Lodi Road, New Delhi-110003. Any additional enquiry may be addressed at Telephone: 24360984, Telefax : 24360984,  e-mail: gandhi@dbt.nic.in
